White, Jr. C ouncilmember Brooke Pinto 10 11 12 _____________________________ 13 C ouncilmember Trayon W hite, Sr 14 15 16 17 A CEREMONIAL RESOLUTION 18 __________ 19 20 21 IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA 22 23 ____________________ 24 25 26 To recognize and honor Henry Jones on his retirement and his over 35 years of serving the 27 District of Columbia in the Department of Human Services, Youth Division and as a 28 boxing ring announcer. 29 30 WHEREAS, Henry Jones received a BA in Behavioral Sciences from Shaw University in 31 Raleigh, North Carolina and a Masters in Social Work from the University of Maryland School of 32 Social Work & Community Planning; 33 34 WHEREAS, Henry Jones retired from the Dep artment of Human Services Youth 35 Division in the D istrict of C olumbia Government after 37 years of working with adolescents, 36 teens and Teen Parents; 37 38 WHEREAS, Henry Jones served as City Supervisor for the new unit on Missing and 39 Runaway Youth; 40 41 WHEREAS, Henry Jones has also been the only ring announcer for pro boxing in 42 Washington, DC for the past 35 years, during which he has appeared on USA Tues Nite Fites, 43 ESPN, HBO and Showtime; 44 45 WHEREAS, Henry Jones i n addition to District of Columbia venues, has announced in 46 Madison Sq uare Garden, Radio City Music Hall, Atlantic City Casinos, Philadelphia, 47 Pennsylvania’s Blue Horizon, and in China; 48 49 WHEREAS, Henry Jones is the only ring announcer to be inducted into the DC Boxing 50 Hall of Fame, and is now t he only African-American r ing announcer in the history of 51 professional boxing; 52 53 WHEREAS, Henry Jones has served with the DC Combat Sports Commission, formerly 54 the DC Boxing Commission, since 1988 and is now the longest serving official. 55 56 WHEREAS, Henry Jones was recognized by the 100 Fathers Inc. Organization as 57 Community Father of the Year. 58 59 RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this 60 resolution may be cited as the “Henry Jones Recognition Resolution of 2023.” 61 62 Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and honors Henry Jones on 63 his retirement and his over 35 years of serving the District of Columbia in the Department of 64 Human Services, Youth Division and as a boxing ring announcer. 65 66 Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon the first date of publication in 67 the District of Columbia Register. 68 69
