Nadeau 14 15 16 17 18 A CEREMONIAL RESOLUTION 19 20 ______ 21 22 23 IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA 24 25 ____________ 26 27 28 To recognize and honor the life of Henderson “OT” Blount and his dedication and work 29 to keep the District’s forests healthy. 30 31 WHEREAS, Henderson “OT” Blount was born in Hampton, Virgnia on October 7, 1968, 32 the youngest of 6 children, eventually moving to the District and becoming Ward 8 Woods 33 Conservancy’s longest serving park steward; 34 WHEREAS, Mr. Blount began working for Ward 8 Woods Conservancy in October 35 2020, rarely missing a day of work, helping the organization remove more than 1,000,000 36 pounds of trash from the District’s often forgotten forested areas; 37 WHEREAS, Mr. Blount was funny, outgoing, and not shy to pull a prank on a co-worker, 38 but he also provided the wisdom of age—helping him earn his nickname of OT, for Old Timer—39 and was a stickler for safety and sanitation; 40 2 WHEREAS, Mr. Blount was known as a man his friends and co-workers could always 41 count on, ensuring that co-workers took breaks on hot days and spending the night alongside a 42 friend and co-worker during a hospital visit; 43 WHEREAS, Mr. Blount passed away on August 8, 2023, from heart complications; and 44 WHEREAS, Mr. Blount is survived by, mourned, and remembered with love by 5 older 45 sisters and a host of nieces, nephews, grand-nephews, relatives, and friends. 46 IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF 47 COLUMBIA, that the Council recognizes and thanks Henderson “OT” Blount for his years of 48 dedication to improving the District’s natural spaces and sends condolences to his family and 49 friends. 50 Sec. 2. This resolution may be cited as the “OT Blount Memorial Recognition Resolution 51 of 2023”. 52 Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon the first date of publication in 53 the District of Columbia Register. 54
