To recognize Father Peter Weigand for his 60 years of service at the St. Anselm's Abbey School. 25

WHEREAS, Father Peter Weigand was born on October 4, 1941 and raised in Wisconsin; 27

WHEREAS, Father Peter Weigand studied biology at St. Mary’s College in Winona, Minnesota 29
and Philosophy and Theology at Catholic University; 30

WHEREAS, Father Peter Weigand arrived at St. Anselm’s Abbey June 20, 1964; 32

WHEREAS, Father Peter Wiegand started teaching biology at the St. Anselm School in 1968; 34

WHEREAS, Father Peter Weigand was ordained a priest in May 1970; 36

WHEREAS, in 1999 Father Peter Weigand won the Principal of the Year award for the District of 38
Columbia; 39

WHEREAS, Father Peter Weigand co-founded the National Capital Cactus and Succulent Society 41
in 1980, and it meets every 3

Sunday in the school for more than 45 years; 42

WHEREAS, Father Peter Weigand has taught science in the school for 54 consecutive years; 44

WHEREAS, Father Peter Weigand currently teaches Physical Anthropology, Native American 46
Studies, and Earth Science; and 47

WHEREAS, Father Peter Weigand has held many positions at the St. Anselm Abbey’s School and 49
Monastery including Second Master, Chaplain, Headmaster, President, and Grounds Master. 50

IT IS HEARBY RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, that 52
this resolution may be cited as the “Father Peter Weigand’s 60th Anniversary Recognition Resolution of 53
2024”. 54
Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and celebrates Father Peter Weigand 55
on the occasion of his 60
th
anniversary for his outstanding commitment, dedication, and service to the 56
School and surrounding community. 57
Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon the first date of publication in the 58
District of Columbia Register. 59
