McDuffie Councilmember Christina Henderson 14 15 16 17 18 A CEREMONIAL RESOLUTION 19 __________ 20 21 IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA 22 __________ 23 24 25 To recognize and commemorate the United States Foreign Service on their 100 th anniversary. 26 27 WHEREAS, the Robers Act united diplomatic and consular services into the United States 28 Foreign Service in 1924; 29 30 WHEREAS, now, in 2024, we celebrate the 100 th anniversary of continuing to strengthen this 31 vital institution and its global network; 32 33 WHEREAS, the United States Foreign Service resolved that in commemoration of the 100 years 34 of dedicated service by the United States Foreign Service, they, as representatives of our nation’s 35 diplomacy, commit to furthering the value of peace, cooperation, and democracy around the world, and 36 its dedication to advancing the principles of freedom and democracy, championing human rights, and 37 fostering international collaboration; 38 39 WHEREAS, we recognize the tireless efforts of the almost 17,000 professionals serving across 40 six different United States agencies both overseas and within our borders, and honor their contributions to 41 American history and global progress; 42 43 WHEREAS, the Foreign Services will celebrate their centennial through a series of events and 44 activities where their members will engage in meaningful dialogue, promote cultural exchange, and 45 inspire the next generation of diplomats; 46 47 WHEREAS, this centennial celebration serves as a testament to the enduring importance of 48 American diplomacy in shaping a more secure and prosperous global future; 49 2 50 WHEREAS, we congratulate the Foreign Service on their 100 years of American diplomacy and 51 the continued legacy of excellence in service to our nation and our world. 52 53 RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, that this resolution 54 may be cited as the “United States Foreign Service Recognition Resolution of 202 4.” 55 56 Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia hereby honors and recognize s the US Foreign 57 Service on a century of leadership and commitment to the ideals of democracy and freedom. 58 59 Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon the first date of publication in the 60 District of Columbia Register. 61
