IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA 
 
May 7, 2024 
 
 
To recognize and commemorate the United States Foreign Service on their 100
th
 anniversary. 
 
 WHEREAS, the Robers Act united diplomatic and consular services into the United States 
Foreign Service in 1924; 
 
WHEREAS, now, in 2024, we celebrate the 100
th
 anniversary of continuing to strengthen this 
vital institution and its global network; 
 
WHEREAS, the United States Foreign Service resolved that in commemoration of the 100 years 
of dedicated service by the United States Foreign Service, they, as representatives of our nation’s 
diplomacy, commit to furthering the value of peace, cooperation, and democracy around the world, and 
its dedication to advancing the principles of freedom and democracy, championing human rights, and 
fostering international collaboration; 
 
WHEREAS, we recognize the tireless efforts of the almost 17,000 professionals serving across 6 
different United States agencies both overseas and within our borders, and honor their contributions to 
American history and global progress; 
 
WHEREAS, the Foreign Services will celebrate their centennial through a series of events and 
activities where their members will engage in meaningful dialogue, promote cultural exchange, and 
inspire the next generation of diplomats; 
 
WHEREAS, this centennial celebration serves as a testament to the enduring importance of 
American diplomacy in shaping a more secure and prosperous global future; 
 
WHEREAS, we congratulate the Foreign Service on their 100 years of American diplomacy and 
the continued legacy of excellence in service to our nation and our world. 
 
 RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, T	hat this resolution 
may be cited as the “United States Foreign Service Recognition Resolution of 202	4.”  
 
 Sec. 2.  The Council of the District of Columbia hereby honors and recognized the US foreign 
Service on a century of leadership and commitment to the ideals of democracy and freedom. 
 
 Sec. 3.  This resolution shall take effect immediately.
