To recognize and honor the Georgetown Garden Club on the occasion of its 100th anniversary 20
for its consistent civic engagement and dedication to preserving and beautifying 21
Georgetown’s green spaces. 22
WHEREAS, the Georgetown Garden Club, founded in 1924 and cherished for its 23
dedication to beautifying every corner of Georgetown, is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 24
2024; 25
WHEREAS, on May 11th, 2024, the Georgetown Garden Club will host the 94th Annual 26
Georgetown Garden Tour; 27
WHEREAS, the Georgetown Garden Club will commemorate its centennial by planting 28
native plants and other perennials in the front beds of the Georgetown Library, engaging the 29 community with a “flower flash,” and sparking the imaginations of children and families through 30
a tree treasure hunt; 31
WHEREAS, the Annual Georgetown Garden Tour and the Georgetown Garden Club’s 32
other fundraising efforts have raised over $750,000 for the greenification of Georgetown’s tree-33
lined streets and public spaces; 34
WHEREAS, the Georgetown Garden Club’s support benefits Book Hill Park, Dumbarton 35
House gardens, Dumbarton Oaks Park Conservancy, Georgetown Waterfront Park, Montrose 36
Park, Rose Park, the Student Conservation Association, Trees for Georgetown, Tudor Place 37
House and Gardens Museum, and Volta Park Habitat Garden; and 38
WHEREAS, the Georgetown Garden Club has given the District the gift of beautiful 39
green spaces to enjoy and cherish for the last one hundred years. 40
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this 41
resolution may be cited as the “Georgetown Garden Club 100th Anniversary Recognition 42
Resolution of 2024”. 43
Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia honors and celebrates the Georgetown 44
Garden Club for its civic engagement and commitment to the green spaces of Georgetown on the 45
occasion of its 100th anniversary. 46
Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon the first date of publication in 47
the District of Columbia Register. 48
