1 2 _________________________________ _________________________________ 3 Councilmember Matthew Frumin Councilmember Brooke Pinto 4 5 6 A CEREMONIAL RESOLUTION 7 8 _________ 9 10 11 IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA 12 13 _______________ 14 15 To recognize and honor SCOUT Bags and its founders on the celebration of the business's 20th 16 anniversary and their many contributions to the District community. 17 18 WHEREAS, Deb Waterman Johns and Ben Johns founded SCOUT Bags (“SCOUT”) in 19 2004 at 1028 33rd Street, N.W., in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C.; 20 WHEREAS, 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of SCOUT, which proudly calls 21 Georgetown home to its company headquarters and flagship retail store; 22 WHEREAS, SCOUT reflects the creativity and industriousness of its founders and 23 employees who strive to design bags, accessories, and home storage solutions that highlight and 24 uplift women and the Washington, D.C., community; 25 WHEREAS, SCOUT supports the D.C. community through charitable projects serving 26 children and frontline heroes, including the Secret Santa program for local kids and the 27 Community Heroes program; 28 WHEREAS, the SCOUT community is also dedicated to supporting the GO BO Fund, 29 which was founded by Deb Waterman Johns and Ben Johns in honor of their son Bo Johns to 30 provide critical support for children and families battling cancer; 31 WHEREAS, the GO BO Fund and the Johns family have raised more than $750,000 over 32 the past 19 years for Georgetown University Hospital’s Department of Pediatric Oncology and 33 Hematology’s Emergency Family Relief Fund; and 34 WHEREAS, SCOUT strives to reflect the strength, ingenuity, and tenacity of its dual 35 namesakes: the character Scout from To Kill a Mockingbird and Deb’s own loyal dachshund. 36 RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this 37 resolution may be cited as the “SCOUT Bags 20th Anniversary Celebration Recognition 38 Resolution of 2024”. 39 Sec. 2. The Council recognizes and honors SCOUT for 20 years of impactful presence in 40 the Georgetown community and for its commitment to cultivating a community spirit that fuels 41 ongoing contributions to the greater Washington, D.C. community. 42 Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon the first date of publication in 43 the District of Columbia Register. 44
