1 ____________________________ 1 Councilmember Charles Allen 2 3 4 A CEREMONIAL RESOLUTION 5 6 _____ 7 8 IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA 9 10 ____________ 11 12 13 To recognize J une Quisenbury for her remarkable century of life and declare June 29, 2024, “June 14 Quisenbury Day” in the District of Columbia. 15 16 WHEREAS, June Quisenbury is a Ward 6 resident who will be turning 100 years young 17 on June 29, 2024; 18 19 WHEREAS, June, affectionately known as “ Junie Bug” , is a lifelong Washingtonian and 20 a beloved figure in her family and community ; 21 22 WHEREAS, born and raised in Northeast Washington, J une has dedicated her life to 23 serving and enriching t he District through decades of public service and active participation in her 24 church; 25 26 WHEREAS, June was educated at Bruce Elementary School, Garnet Patterson Junior High 27 School, Dunbar Senior High S chool, and Howard University; 28 29 WHEREAS, June’s professional career spanned several r oles with the federal government, 30 including the Navy and the Veterans Administration, where she dedicated many years to the 31 betterment of our nation; 32 33 WHEREAS, June's journey reflects resilience and spirited dedication; 34 35 WHEREAS, June’s long-standing membership at Vermont Avenue Baptist Church and her 36 passion for globe-trotting have infused her life with joy and broadened her impact; 37 38 WHEREAS, June has lived at 5th and I Streets, NE, since 1947, deepening her roots in the 39 community for m ore than 75 years; and 40 41 WHEREAS, June’s neighbors cherish her presence, and she i s a pillar of the community. 42 43 RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, that this 44 resolution may be cited as the “June Quisenbury Recognition Resolution of 2024”. 45 46 2 Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes recognize June Quisenbury for 47 her remarkable century of life and declares June 29, 2024, “June Quisenbury Day” in the District 48 of Columbia. 49 50 Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately. 51
