McDuffie 2 3 4 5 A CEREMONIAL RESOLUTION 6 __________ 7 8 9 IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA 10 11 ____________________ 12 13 To recognize and honor Ransom Miller, III, founder of Project GiveBack Community 14 Service Organization, on the occasion of the 30 th Annual Thanksgiving Food Distribution. 15 16 WHEREAS, Ransom Miller, III founded Project GiveBack Community Service 17 Organization in 1995, holding the first annual Thanksgiving Food Distribution in Washington, 18 DC; 19 WHEREAS, Mr. Miller’s vision of helping families in need during the Thanksgiving 20 holiday has grown into a thriving service organization whose signature program is the Annual 21 Thanksgiving Food Distribution. Other programs include The Back 2 School Backpack and 22 School Supply Distribution, The Christmas Toy + Book Distribution, and The Homeless Support 23 Effort; 24 25 WHEREAS, Project GiveBack Thanksgiving Food Distribution has become the premier 26 service event in the DC Metro Area; 27 28 WHEREAS, Project GiveBack has distributed over 31,500 grocery baskets to needy 29 families which translates to over 330,000 meals; 30 31 WHEREAS, Project GiveBack has garnered over 8,500 volunteers from various 32 demographics which translates to over 32,000 volunteer hours; 33 34 WHEREAS, Project GiveBack has invested over $1,700,000 to fund community service 35 projects; 36 37 WHEREAS, Project GiveBack distributes toys to children from families with limited 38 financial resources through their Children’s Toy Drive ; 39 40 WHEREAS, Project GiveBack creates a safe, enjoyable space for children in Southeast 41 D.C. to experience and celebrate Easter; 42 43 WHEREAS, Project GiveBack supports schools and community organizations in 44 obtaining over 100 laptops and personal computers to enhance educational resources; 45 WHEREAS, Project GiveBack provides students from various backgrounds with 46 opportunities to engage in experiences that foster career ambitions, creativity, and social 47 innovation through their Youth Exposure Program ; 48 49 WHEREAS, Project GiveBack supplies backpacks, school supplies, and other essential 50 items to students in need, distributed just before the school year begins through their Back 2 51 School Backpack and School Supply Program; 52 53 WHEREAS, Project GiveBack operates with an entirely volunteer -based staff, meaning 54 there are no paid employees. As a result, 100% of the donations received are directed toward 55 supporting charitable programming; 56 57 WHEREAS, Project GiveBack has expanded its reach beyond Washington, DC, 58 coordinating events in several U.S. cities, including Dallas (TX), Oklahoma City (OK), Tulsa 59 (OK), St. Louis (MO), and Denver (CO); 60 61 RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, that this 62 resolution may be cited as the “Ransom Miller, III and Project GiveBack Community Service 63 Organization 30th Anniversary Recognition Resolution of 2024”. 64 65 Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and honors the contributions 66 of Ransom Miller, III and Project GiveBack Community Service Organization to the District 67 through their decades of service to families in Washington, DC. 68 69 Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately. 70
