ENROLLED ORIGINAL 1 A CEREMONIAL RESOLUTION 25-302 IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA December 3, 2024 To recognize and honor the Washington Spirit for their incredible 2024 season, which include d an appearance in the National Women’s Soccer League Championship. WHEREAS, the Washington Spirit was founded on November 21, 2012, and is an inaugural member of the National Women’s Soccer League; WHEREAS, the Washington Spirit made their third finals appearance on Saturday, November 23, 2024, against the Orlando Pride at CPKC Stadium in Kansas City; WHEREAS, t he Washington Spirit tied for the most wins in the NWSL regular season, with 18 wins; WHEREAS, the Washington Spirit standout Croix Bethune received 3 end -of-season awards: being named the 2024 Rookie of the Year, making the Best XI First Team, and making history by earning the NWSL's first -ever Midfielder of the Year award; WHEREAS, t he Washington Spirit finished the 2024 season with a franchise-record 19 wins, 18 of which came in the regular season, with the other coming from their playoff victory against Gotham FC; WHEREAS, the Washington Spirit boasted a star-studded lineup, with 3 players selected to the NWSL's Best XI First Team: defender Casey Krueger, midfielder Croix Bethune, and forward Trinity Rodman. Additionally, 2 players, defender Tara McKeown and midfielder Hal Hershfelt, were named to the Best XI Second Team; WHEREAS, t he Washington Spirit set a new club record for the most goals scored in a single season, with 51; WHEREAS, the Washington Spirit sold out Audi Field three times during the 2024 season; IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, T hat this resolution may be cited as the “Washington Spirit Recognition Resolution of 2024”. ENROLLED ORIGINAL 2 Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and honors the Washington Spirit for their incredible 2024 season and for their contribution to sports and to the District of Columbia, for setting the standard of excellence, and for paving the way for the growth of women’s soccer in the city. Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
