To confirm the reappointment 
of William Strudwick to the Board 	of Medicine. 
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, that this 
resolution may be cited as the "Board 
of Medicine William Strudwick Confirmation Resolution 
of 2024".

2. The Council of the District of Columbia confirms the reappointment of:

Director, Department of Emergency Medicine 
Directed an inner-city Emergency Department that had about 48,000 patient visits annually, generated about 
75 percent of the hospital’s medical surgical admissions, and had an annual budget of approximately $5 
million. Helped plan and oversee the renovation and expansion of the department from 13,000 to 24,000 
square feet. Provided the medical direction of six other hospital clinical services, including the Wellness Center, 
Employee Health, Catholic University Student Health, and the Medical Associates (Hospitalists) Service. 
Assistant Director, Department of Emergency Medicine 
Developed and monitored policies and procedures that promoted the effective and efficient operations of the 
Emergency Department. Oversaw the implementation of a computerized charting system. Recruited and 
provided orientation for new physicians. Participated in community outreach programs related to health care 
and health education. 
Attending Physician, Department of Emergency Medicine 
Provided medical care to patients in a Level II trauma center. Served as Director for continuous quality 
improvement. Member of Medical Staff Quality Improvement Committee, Utilization Management Committee, 
and Medical Credentials Committee.

Dr. William Strudwick 
 
Dr. William Strudwick is currently the 	Chairman of Emergency 
Medicine at Howard University Hospital and recently served as the 
Medical Director of the Emergency Care Center (ECC) at Providence 
Hospital from 2004 to 2023.  
Born and raised in the District of Columbia and a third-	generation 
physician, Dr. Strudwick maintains a strong commitment to serving the 
needs of the community. His experience in a mission-	driven 
organization has allowed him to understand the strong need for 
standards of competence in frontline medical providers. 
With the high level of responsibilities to lead a competent staff while 
providing excellent care to patients daily, Dr. Strudwick still makes time to serve as medical 
Director of the Event Medicine Program, the Wellness Institute, Occupational Health, and the 
Medial Associate Program (Hospitalist). He also serves on the Providence Hospital Foundation 
Board. 
A Ward 4 resident, Dr. Strudwick earned his Bachelor of Arts in Biology 	and his Doctor of
