IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA  21

To honor and recognize Jayden Daniels for being named the 2025 Associated Press (AP) 25 
Offensive Rookie of the Year as the starting quarterback of the Washington Commanders. 26 
 27 
WHEREAS, Jayden Daniels, born on December 18, 2000, in San Bernardino, California; 28 
 29 
WHEREAS, Daniels played three seasons of college football at Arizona State University, 30 
where he emerged as a bright young star, throwing for 17 touchdowns and rushing for an 31 
additional three during his freshman year; 32 
 33 
WHEREAS, in 2022, Daniels transferred to Louisiana State University (LSU), where he 34 
continued to excel, culminating in a historic 2023 season in which he won the Heisman Trophy, 35 
becoming the third player in LSU history to receive this honor; 36 
 37 
WHEREAS, during the 2023 season at LSU, Daniels achieved remarkable statistics, 38 
including 3,812 passing yards, 1,134 rushing yards, and 50 touchdowns, leading the Football 39 
Bowl Subdivision (FBS) in total yards; 40 
 41 
WHEREAS, he was selected second overall in the 2024 National F ootball League Draft 42 
by the Washington Commanders and was named the team's starting quarterback near the end of 43 
training camp; 44 
 45  WHEREAS, in his rookie season with the Commanders, Daniels set an NFL rookie and 46 
team record with a 91.3% completion percentage on 23 attempts in a game against the Cincinnati 47 
Bengals, amassing 293 total yards and three touchdowns, earning him NFC Offensive Player of 48 
the Week honors; 49

WHEREAS, Daniels was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for September 51 
2024, being the first Washington Commander to win it since Robert Griffin III in 2012; 52

WHEREAS, during the 2024 regular season, Jayden Daniels completed 69% of his 54 
passes for 3,568 yards, threw 25 touchdowns, and rushed for 891 yards and 6 touchdowns, 55 
showcasing his dual-threat capabilities; 56

WHEREAS, he became the third rookie in NFL history to pass for over 3,000 yards and 58 
rush for over 600 yards in a season, as well as the fifth player and first rookie to have four games 59 
with a completion percentage of at least 80% in a season; 60

WHEREAS, Daniels set the NFL record for most rushing yards in a season by a rookie 62 
quarterback and led the Commanders to their first playoff win since 2005 and first NFC 63 
Championship Game appearance since 1991; 64

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, this resolution 66 
may be cited as the “Jayden Daniels Recognition Resolution of 2025”. 67

The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and honors Jayden Daniels for his 69 
outstanding accomplishments in the National Football League as a member of the Washington 70 
Commanders, and we commend his dedication, perseverance, and contributions to the sport. 71

This resolution shall take effect immediately upon the first date of publication in the 73 
District of Columbia Register. 74
