To declare the month of March 2025 as “Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month” in 11
the District of Columbia, and to recognize the important role that people with disabilities play in 12
shaping public policy, advocating for positive change, and enriching all our lives. 13

WHEREAS, people with developmental disabilities are our friends, family, and neighbors 15
in every Ward of the District of Columbia; 16

WHEREAS, we believe that inclusion of people with developmental disabilities in our 18
communities, workplaces, and schools makes us all better off; 19

WHEREAS, government agencies, community organizations, and individual and family 21
leaders work together to create accessible and high-quality education, housing, employment, 22
healthcare, recreational activities, and other community resources for people with developmental 23
disabilities; 24

WHEREAS, the District of Columbia is committed to creating more opportunities for 26
economic self-sufficiency, belonging, and creative innovation by ensuring that residents with 27
disabilities have meaningful employment opportunities; 28

WHEREAS, the 2025 observance of Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month 30
celebrates 39 years of advocacy in education, employment, housing, and community support; and 31

WHEREAS, this year’s theme, “We're Here All Year: Impacting Lives, Influencing 33
Change”, recognizes the important role that people with disabilities play in shaping public 34
policy, advocating for positive change, and enriching all our lives. 35

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this 37
resolution may be cited as the “Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month Recognition 38
Resolution of 2025”. 39

Sec. 2. The Council declares the month of March 2025 as “Developmental Disabilities 41
Awareness Month” and recognizes the important role that people with disabilities play in 42
shaping public policy, advocating for positive change, and enriching all our lives. 43

Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately. 45
