Hocker on behalf of all Senators HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES 152nd GENERAL ASSEMBLY HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 50 RECOGNIZING THE SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN BETHANY BEACH AND THE TOWN OF PRIERS IN NORMANDY, FRANCE, AND THE LIBERATION OF PRIERS IN WORLD WAR II. WHEREAS, Bethany Beach established a sister city or twinning relationship with Priers in 2010 because the father of a local Bethany resident had served as a battalion commander in the U.S. Army 90 th Infantry Division that liberated Priers from Nazi occupation in 1944 during World War II; and WHEREAS, the citizens of Priers continue to honor the American soldiers who died in the liberation of their town and every year place flags on the graves of those buried in Normandy; and WHEREAS, the citizens of Bethany Beach and Priers remember and celebrate the momentous occasion of the liberation and their special relationship every year; and WHEREAS, a delegation from Bethany Beach will travel to Priers in May 2023 for a joint celebration; and WHEREAS, it is appropriate to thank the citizens of Priers for continuing to honor our fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives in the liberation of Priers; and WHEREAS, it is also appropriate to recognize and celebrate the bond of friendship of the citizens of Priers with the citizens of Bethany Beach and the State of Delaware. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 152 nd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that the General Assembly hereby expresses our appreciation and gratitude to the citizens of Periers, France for continuing to remember and honor the American soldiers who died in the liberation of their town in World War II. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the General Assembly hereby recognizes the special relationship between Priers, France and the Town of Bethany Beach, Delaware, a relationship that celebrates liberty and enduring friendship. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that 2 suitably prepared copies of this resolution be presented to the Town of Bethany Beach.
