 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 91 

   

 RECOGNIZING MARCH 13, 2024, AS KAPPA ALPHA PSI DAY AT THE CAPITOL IN DELAWARE. 

   

  WHEREAS, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., is 113 years young and was founded on the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington, IN, and has been in continuous existence since January 5, 19011; and   WHEREAS, Elder Watson Diggs, Byron Kenneth Armstrong, Guy Levis Grant, Marcus Peter Blakemore, Ezra Dee Alexander, John Milton Lee, Henry Tourner Asher, Edward Giles Irvin, George Wesley Edmonds, and Paul Waymond Caine, established the first intercollegiate fraternity incorporated as a national body by and for Black college-educated men with high Christian ideals and the purpose of ACHIEVEMENT; and   WHEREAS, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. consisting of over 160,000 members worldwide, has set the standard for achievement in every field of human endeavor while providing community service to all mankind while tallying countess hours, particularly in Black and under-served neighborhoods; and   WHEREAS, On March 8, 1947, the Grand Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. chartered the Beta Sigma and the Wilmington (DE) Alumni chapters establishing a continuous Kappa presence throughout Delaware communities for the past 77 years; and   WHEREAS, Beta Sigma, Wilmington (DE) Alumni, Dover (DE) Alumni, Nu Xi, Xi Mu, and Pi Eta chapters provide leadership and influence towards civic contributions that have brought about economic security, environmental sustainability, address issues of poverty, social justice, and spiritual uplift throughout Delaware, nationally and internationally; and   WHEREAS, Beta Sigma, Wilmington (DE) Alumni, Dover (DE) Alumni, Nu Xi, Xi Mu, Pi Eta chapters, and their members have been actively involved in our local communities by spearheading the Guide Right/Kappa League; The Achievement Center in Wilmington; youth enrichment programs; Dream Keepers Foundation, Inc.; Kappa Mainstream Leadership, Inc., and the Kappa Klassic Basketball Tournament instilling the values of leadership and scholarship while providing athletic opportunities for youth throughout Delaware and neighboring communities; and   WHEREAS, Beta Sigma, Wilmington (DE) Alumni, Dover (DE) Alumni, Nu Xi, Xi Mu, and Pi Eta Chapters have provided consistent guidance in advocacy to the Delaware General Assembly; and actively engaged Delaware through voter registration initiatives, and voter education forums statewide; and   WHEREAS, today, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporateds thoughts and interests are important to help improve, strengthen, and ensure that responsible legislation and public policy is enacted to govern the great state of Delaware; and   WHEREAS, to unite college men of culture, patriotism, and honor a bond of a fraternity; to encourage honorable achievement in every field of human endeavor; to promote the spiritual, social, intellectual, and moral welfare of members; to assist the aims and purposes of colleges and universities; and to inspire to service in the public interest remain the guiding objectives of our membership in pursuit of Phi Nu Pi Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity, Incorporated have undoubtedly provided and will continue to provide advocacy and service to all mankind.   NOW, THEREFORE:    BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 152nd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that March 13, 2024, shall be Kappa Alpha Psi Day at the Capitol in Delaware.
