WHEREAS, the American Legion has existed for more than 100 years to enhance the well-being of Americas veterans and their families; and WHEREAS, the number one issue facing those who served is veteran suicide; and WHEREAS, in 2022, the American Legion launched its Be The One campaign to encourage American Legion family members, veterans, servicemembers, and others to take action when they believe a veteran is at risk of suicide; and WHEREAS, the American Legion is activating a national platform to end veteran suicide; and WHEREAS, the Be The One campaign will destigmatize asking for mental health support, creating opportunity for those with mental health issues to speak freely and get the support they need; and WHEREAS, the stigma associated with mental health issues is a barrier to veterans seeking assistance; and WHEREAS, the American Legion urges veterans and patriotic Americans to reach out to a veteran in order to Be The One and save a life. NOW, THEREFORE: BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring therein, that the General Assembly hereby recognizes March 14, 2024, as Be The One Day and all citizens are encouraged to find a veteran in their community they can support by letting them know you care.
