 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 151 

   

 RECOGNIZING APRIL 29, 2024, AS "WORLD WISH DAY" IN DELAWARE. 

   

  WHEREAS, the mission of Make-A-Wish Philadelphia, Delaware & Susquehanna Valley is Together, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses; and   WHEREAS, Make-A-Wish has been granting life-changing wishes for children and families for over 40 years; and   WHEREAS, Make-A-Wish now brings the hope and joy of granting wishes to over 50 countries, and has granted more than 550,000 wishes all over the world; and   WHEREAS, every 20 minutes, a child is diagnosed with a critical illness, with hospitalizations and rigorous medical testing having the potential to make the child feel demotivated; and   WHEREAS, by granting a wish, children can regain confidence in their life and realize their wishes are important and they can achieve anything that they want in life; and    WHEREAS, Make-A-Wish currently grants a wish every 34 minutes to a child in the United States, and nearly 27,000 wishes globally in the last year; and   WHEREAS, research suggests that the granting of a wish can give children the strength to fight against critical illness and bring joy when it is needed most; and   WHEREAS, a wish has the power to create a unique and lasting impact and provide renewed hope, show them a world of possibility, and uplift the spirits of children while uniting neighbors, friends, and communities; and   WHEREAS, in Fiscal Year 2023, Make-A-Wish Philadelphia, Delaware & Susquehanna Valley was able to grant a record number 330 wishes to children with critical illnesses; and   WHEREAS, World Wish Day highlights the incredible impact of Make-A-Wish on the lives of children and their families around the world and expresses gratitude to donors, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters who contribute their time, resources, and efforts to fulfill the wishes of courageous children; and    WHEREAS, this day seeks to inspire individuals and communities to get involved and make a difference in the lives of children battling life-threatening medical conditions. By granting wishes, the foundation provides hope and optimism to children and their families, showing them that their dreams are still within reach despite their challenges; and    WHEREAS, World Wish Day celebrates the anniversary of the fulfillment of the first wish granted in April 1980 that inspired the creation of Make-A-Wish.   NOW THEREFORE:   BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 152nd General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that April 29, 2024, is hereby recognized as World Wish Day in Delaware.
