 152nd GENERAL ASSEMBLY 

   

 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 29 

   

 DESIGNATING THE WEEK OF APRIL 9 TO APRIL 15, 2023 AS "SOCIAL EQUITY WEEK" IN DELAWARE. 

   

  WHEREAS, social equity is a fundamental principle of fairness, justice, and opportunity for all individuals, regardless of their race, caste, gender, ethnicity, religion, age, or sexual orientation; and   WHEREAS, the State of Delaware is committed to creating an inclusive and equitable society that values diversity and fosters respect, understanding, and acceptance of all people; and   WHEREAS, the celebration of Social Justice Equity Week from April 9 through April 15 is an important opportunity to honor the birth anniversaries of two great social reformers and anti-discrimination crusaders from India, Mahatma Jotirao Phule (Birth Anniversary April 11) and Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, known as the Architect of Modern India (Birth Anniversary April 14), as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for social equity in South Asia and around the world; and   WHEREAS, the life work of Mahatma Jotirao Phule and Dr. Ambedkar has elevated the lives of millions of marginalized people across India, providing them with an opportunity to live with dignity and honor, and to enjoy social, political, economic, and religious equity; and   WHEREAS, the work of these great social reformers is recognized for the revival of democratic principles in modern India, embracing the principles of compassion and non-violence for a society that leads to equality, liberty, justice, and fraternity; and   WHEREAS, the celebration of Social Equity Week in Delaware is an opportunity to promote awareness, education, and action on issues related to social justice, equity, and inclusion in our communities.   NOW, THEREFORE:   BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the 152  nd   General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that April 9  th   through April 15  th  , 2023, is recognized as Social Equity Week in the State of Delaware.   BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the General Assembly urges all citizens of Delaware to participate in activities and events that promote social equity, including dialogue, education, and action, to build a more just and equitable society for all.
