A bill to be entitled 1 
An act relating to Alzheimer's disease and related 2 
forms of dementia education and public awareness; 3 
creating s. 381.825, F.S.; providing a short title; 4 
requiring the Department of Health to educate certain 5 
licensed health care providers regarding specified 6 
information related to Alzheimer's disease and related 7 
forms of dementia; requiring the department to 8 
encourage health care providers and facilities to 9 
prominently display such information; requiring the 10 
department to encourage health care providers to 11 
discuss the risks of Alzheimer's disease and related 12 
forms of dementia with certain patients; requiring the 13 
department to post on its website certain reso urces 14 
and a link to the Centers for Disease Control and 15 
Prevention's website; authorizing the department to 16 
fund certain outreach programs for specified purposes; 17 
requiring the department to collaborate with other 18 
state agencies and entities for specified purposes; 19 
providing an effective date. 20

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 22 
 23 
 Section 1.  Section 381.825, Florida Statutes, is created 24 
to read: 25

 381.825  Education and public awareness relating to 26 
Alzheimer's disease and relate d forms of dementia. — 27 
 (1)  This section may be cited as the "Ramping up Education 28 
of Alzheimer's and Dementia for You (READY) Act." 29 
 (2)  The Department of Health shall, through existing, 30 
relevant public health and community outreach programs, educate 31 
health care providers licensed under chapters 458, 459, and 464 32 
regarding all of the following information: 33 
 (a)  The importance of early detection and timely diagnosis 34 
of Alzheimer's disease and related forms of dementia. 35 
 (b)  Using a validated cognitive as sessment tool. 36 
 (c)  The value and effectiveness of the Medicare annual 37 
wellness visit in detecting Alzheimer's disease and related 38 
forms of dementia. 39 
 (d)  Using Medicare advance care planning billing codes for 40 
persons with Alzheimer's disease and related forms of dementia. 41 
 (e)  Reducing the risk of cognitive decline, particularly 42 
among persons in diverse communities who are at greater risk of 43 
developing Alzheimer's disease and related forms of dementia. 44 
 (3)(a)  The Department of Health shall encourage h ealth 45 
care providers and health care facilities, including, but not 46 
limited to, physicians, nurses, hospitals, rural health 47 
networks, and county health departments to prominently display 48 
information relating to Alzheimer's disease and related forms of 49 
dementia, including the information specified in subsection (2). 50

 (b)  The department shall also encourage health care 51 
providers to discuss the risks of Alzheimer's disease and 52 
related forms of dementia with patients 60 years of age and 53 
older. 54 
 (4)  The Department of Health shall post on its website 55 
resources and a link to the federal Centers for Disease Control 56 
and Prevention's website for information regarding Alzheimer's 57 
disease and related forms of dementia. 58 
 (5)  The Department of Health may fund mobile and virtual 59 
outreach programs, using available federal and state funds 60 
appropriated for that purpose, which prioritize persons in 61 
underserved communities and provide information promoting public 62 
awareness of Alzheimer's disease and related forms of dementia, 63 
including, but not limited to, brain health, risk reduction, 64 
early detection, and early diagnosis. The mobile and virtual 65 
outreach programs may also provide resources regarding 66 
Alzheimer's disease and relate d forms of dementia to the public 67 
and referrals to the Department of Elderly Affairs. 68 
 (6)  The Department of Health shall collaborate with other 69 
state agencies, including the Department of Elderly Affairs; 70 
associations or organizations, including the Alzh eimer's 71 
Association; and public or private institutions to create a 72 
systematic approach for educating health care providers and 73 
promoting public awareness of Alzheimer's disease and related 74 
forms of dementia. 75

 Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2022. 76
