A bill to be entitled 1 
An act relating to uterine fibroid research and 2 
education; creating s. 381.9312, F.S.; providing 3 
definitions; requiring the Department of Health to 4 
develop and maintain an electronic database of 5 
information related to uterine fibroids; providing a 6 
specified purpose for such database; requiring that 7 
the database include specified information; requiring 8 
health care providers to submit certain information to 9 
the department for inclusion in the database; 10 
prohibiting the database from including any personal 11 
identifying information; providing that such 12 
information is confidential; authorizing certain 13 
persons to use such information for a specified 14 
purpose; requiring the department to develop and 15 
include information related to fibroids in certain 16 
literature currently made available to the public for 17 
a specified purpose; providing an effective date. 18

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 20 
 21 
 Section 1.  Section 381.9312, Florida Statutes, is created 22 
to read: 23 
 381.9312  Uterine fibroid research database; education and 24 
public awareness.— 25

 (1)  DEFINITIONS.—As used in this section, the term: 26 
 (a)  "Department" means the Department of Health. 27 
 (b)  "Health care provider" means a physician licensed 28 
under chapter 458 or chapter 459 or an autonomous advanced 29 
practice registered nurse registered under s. 464.0123. 30 
 (c)  "Uterine fibroid" means a noncancerous growth of the 31 
uterus that often appears during a wo man's childbearing years. 32 
 (2)  UTERINE FIBROID RESEARCH DATABASE. — 33 
 (a)  The department shall develop and maintain an 34 
electronic database consisting of information related to uterine 35 
fibroids. The purpose of the database is to encourage research 36 
relating to the diagnosis and treatment of uterine fibroids and 37 
to ensure that women are provided with the relevant information 38 
and health care necessary to prevent and treat uterine fibroids. 39 
The database must include, but need not be limited to, all of 40 
the following information: 41 
 1.  Incidence and prevalence of women diagnosed with 42 
uterine fibroids in the state. 43 
 2.  Demographic attributes of women diagnosed with uterine 44 
fibroids in the state. 45 
 3.  Treatments and procedures for uterine fibroids used by 46 
health care providers in the state. 47 
 (b)  A health care provider who diagnoses or treats a woman 48 
with uterine fibroids shall submit information relating to such 49 
diagnosis or treatment to the department in a form and manner 50

prescribed by department rule for inclusion in the database. 51 
Such information may be submitted along with any reports or 52 
other information that the health care provider is required to 53 
submit to the department pursuant to state law. 54 
 (3)  UTERINE FIBROID EDUCATION OUTREACH AND PUBLIC 55 
AWARENESS.—The department shall develop and include information 56 
related to uterine fibroids in its women's health care 57 
educational materials currently made available to the public. 58 
The information must include, but need not be limited to, the 59 
following: 60 
 (a)  Possible risk factors for developing uterine fibroids. 61 
 (b)  Range of available treatment options that are 62 
considered alternatives to hysterectomy. 63 
 Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2022. 64
