An act relating to uterine fibroid research and 2 
education; creating s. 381.9312, F.S.; providing 3 
definitions; requiring the Department of Health to 4 
develop and maintain an electronic database of 5 
information related to uterine fibroids; providing a 6 
specified purpose for such database; requiring that 7 
the database include specified information; requiring 8 
health care providers to submit certain informatio n to 9 
the department for inclusion in the database; 10 
prohibiting the database from including any personal 11 
identifying information; requiring the department to 12 
develop and include information related to fibroids in 13 
certain literature currently made available to the 14 
public for a specified purpose; providing an 15 
appropriation and authorizing a position; providing an 16 
effective date. 17

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 19 
 20 
 Section 1.  Section 381.9312, Florida Statutes, is created 21 
to read: 22 
 381.9312  Uterine fibroid research database; education and 23 
public awareness.— 24 
 (1)  DEFINITIONS.—As used in this section, the term: 25

 (a)  "Department" means the Department of Health. 26 
 (b)  "Health care provider" means a physician or physician 27 
assistant licensed under chapter 458 or chapter 459 or an 28 
advanced practice registered nurse licensed under chapter 464. 29 
 (c)  "Uterine fibroid" means a noncancerous growth of the 30 
uterus that often appears during a woman's childbearing years. 31 
 (2)  UTERINE FIBROID R ESEARCH DATABASE.— 32 
 (a)  The department shall develop and maintain an 33 
electronic database consisting of information related to uterine 34 
fibroids. The purpose of the database is to encourage research 35 
relating to the diagnosis and treatment of uterine fibroid s and 36 
to ensure that women are provided with the relevant information 37 
and health care necessary to prevent and treat uterine fibroids. 38 
The database must include, but need not be limited to, all of 39 
the following information: 40 
 1.  Incidence and prevalence of women diagnosed with 41 
uterine fibroids in the state. 42 
 2.  Demographic attributes of women diagnosed with uterine 43 
fibroids in the state. 44 
 3.  Treatments and procedures for uterine fibroids used by 45 
health care providers in the state. 46 
 (b)  A health care prov ider who diagnoses or treats a woman 47 
with uterine fibroids shall submit information relating to such 48 
diagnosis or treatment to the department in a form and manner 49 
prescribed by department rule for inclusion in the database. 50

Such information may be submitte d along with any reports or 51 
other information that the health care provider is required to 52 
submit to the department pursuant to state law. 53 
 (c)  The database may not include any personal identifying 54 
information of women diagnosed with or treated for uterine 55 
fibroids. 56 
 (3)  UTERINE FIBROID EDUCATION OUTREACH AND PUBLIC 57 
AWARENESS.—The department shall develop and include information 58 
related to uterine fibroids in its women's health care 59 
educational materials currently made available to the public. 60 
The information must include, but need not be limited to, the 61 
following: 62 
 (a)  Possible risk factors for developing uterine fibroids. 63 
 (b)  Range of available treatment options that are 64 
considered alternatives to hysterectomy. 65 
 Section 2.  For the 2022-2023 fiscal year, the sums of 66 
$121,852 in recurring funds from the General Revenue Fund and 67 
$681,048 in nonrecurring funds from the General Revenue Fund are 68 
appropriated to the Department of Health and one full -time 69 
equivalent position with associated salary rate of 55,212 is 70 
authorized for the purpose of implementing this act. 71 
 Section 3.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2022. 72
