Subsection (18) of section 633.202, Florida 13 Statutes, is amended to read: 14 633.202 Florida Fire Prevention Code. — 15 (18) The authority having jurisdiction shall determine the 16 minimum radio signal st rength for fire department communications 17 in all new high-rise and existing high -rise buildings. Two-way 18 radio communication enhancement systems or equivalent systems 19 may be used to comply with the minimum radio signal strength 20 requirements. However, two -way radio communication enhancement 21 systems or equivalent systems are not required in apartment 22 buildings that are 75 feet or less in height. However, by January 1, 2024, an existing building that is 28 not in compliance with the requirements for min imum radio 29 strength for fire department communications must apply for an 30 appropriate permit for the required installation with the local 31 government agency having jurisdiction and must demonstrate that 32 the building will become compliant by January 1, 2025. Existing 33 apartment buildings are not required to comply until January 1, 34 2025. However, existing apartment buildings are required to 35 apply for the appropriate permit for the required communications 36 installation by January 1, 2024. 37 Section 2. This act s hall take effect July 1, 2022. 38
