Subsection (18) of section 633.202, Florida 13 Statutes, is amended to read: 14 633.202 Florida Fire Prevention Code. — 15 (18) The authority having jurisdiction shall determine the 16 minimum radio signal st rength for fire department communications 17 in all new high-rise and existing high -rise buildings. Two-way 18 radio communication enhancement systems or equivalent systems 19 may be used to comply with the minimum radio signal strength 20 requirements. However, two -way radio communication enhancement 21 systems or equivalent systems are not required in apartment 22 buildings 75 feet or less in height with the exterior components 23 constructed of wood frame. Existing buildings are not required to comply with 27 minimum radio strength for fire department communications and 28 two-way radio communication enhancement syste ms system 29 enhancement communications as required by the Florida Fire 30 Prevention Code until January 1, 2025. However, by January 1, 31 2024, an existing building that is not in compliance with the 32 requirements for minimum radio strength for fire department 33 communications must apply for an appropriate permit for the 34 required installation with the local government agency having 35 jurisdiction and must demonstrate that the building will become 36 compliant by January 1, 2025. Existing apartment buildings are 37 not required to comply until January 1, 2025. However, existing 38 apartment buildings are required to apply for the appropriate 39 permit for the required communications installation by January 40 1, 2024. 41 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2022. 42
