A bill to be entitled 1 
An act relating to the Cedar Hammock Fire Control 2 
District, Manatee County; amending chapter 2000 -391, 3 
Laws of Florida, as amended; revising boundaries; 4 
providing for expansion of the district; authorizing 5 
the district to provide fire control and emergency 6 
medical services, levy and collect taxes, assessments, 7 
and fees, and administer fire rescue programs and 8 
services within the district's expanded boundar ies; 9 
requiring a referendum; providing an effective date. 10

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 12 
 13 
 Section 1.  Sections 2 and 3 of section 1 of chapter 2000 -14 
391, Laws of Florida, as amended by chapters 2007 -283 and 2015-15 
197, Laws of Florida, are amended to read: 16 
 Section 2.  Jurisdiction. —The lands to be incorporated 17 
within the Cedar Hammock Fire Control District are located in 18 
Manatee County, Florida, and are described as follows: 19

BEGIN AT THE NORTHEAST CORNER OF SECTION 2, TOW NSHIP 21 
35 SOUTH, RANGE 17 EAST; THENCE SOUTH ALONG THE EAST 22

 Section 3.  Merger, expansion, and; district authority.—The 172 
Whitfield Fire Control District, created pursuant to chapter 67 -173 
914, Laws of Florida, as amended, was merged into the Cedar 174 
Hammock Fire Control District pursuant to chapter 2007 -283, Laws 175

of Florida. The Trailer Estates Fire Control District created 176 
pursuant to chapter 2005 -350, Laws of Florida, was dissolved 177 
effective September 30, 2022, following a November 2, 2021, 178 
referendum and subsequent legislative special act dissolving 179 
such fire district. The Cedar Hammock Fire Control District's 180 
existing boundaries surround the unincorporated area of Manatee 181 
County formerly serviced by the Trailer Estates Fire Control 182 
District. The Cedar Hammock Fire Control District is granted the 183 
authority to provide fire control and emergency medical 184 
services; levy and collect taxes, assessments, and fees as set 185 
forth in chapter 2015 -197, Laws of Florida ; and administer fire 186 
rescue programs and services within the district's expanded 187 
boundaries as provided herein in accordance wit h chapter 2015-188 
197 amended boundary pursuant to chapter 2000 -391, Laws of 189 
Florida, chapter 191, Florida Statutes, and applicable laws , 190 
provided that a districtwide referendum of the qualified 191 
electors is held authorizing the Cedar Hammock Fire Control 192 
District to provide fire control and emergency medical services; 193 
levy and collect taxes, assessments, and fees; and administer 194 
fire rescue programs and services within the district's expanded 195 
boundaries and as approved by district electors on September 5, 196 
2006. 197 
 Section 2.  Referendum.—On or before November 8, 2022, the 198 
Cedar Hammock Fire Control District shall call and conduct a 199 
referendum, in accordance with the provisions of law relating to 200

elections currently in force, on the question of whether the 201 
Cedar Hammock Fire Control District is authorized to provide 202 
fire control and emergency medical services; levy and collect 203 
taxes, assessments, and fees; and administer fire rescue 204 
programs and services within the district's expanded boundaries. 205 
 Section 3.  This act shall take effect only if a majority 206 
of those qualified electors within the Cedar Hammock Fire 207 
Control District voting in a referendum held pursuant to this 208 
act approve the referendum question in section 2, except that 209 
this section and section 2 sh all take effect upon becoming a 210 
law. 211
