HR 8031 2022 hr8031-00 Page 1 of 2 F L O R I D A H O U S E O F R E P R E S E N T A T I V E S House Resolution 1 A resolution celebrating the 75th anniversary of 2 Everglades National Park. 3 4 WHEREAS, early colonial settlers attempted to dredge and 5 drain the Everglades in order to create farm land, which 6 severely damaged the ecosystem of the wetlands, and 7 WHEREAS, with the support of conservationists and 8 scientists, Everglades National Park was established in 1947 to 9 conserve the natural landscape a nd prevent further degradation 10 of the land, plants, and animals, and 11 WHEREAS, Everglades National Park is home to 13 endangered 12 and 10 threatened species and, because of its location, has a 13 unique mingling of diverse temperate and subtropical animal and 14 plant species, and 15 WHEREAS, Everglades National Park is the largest continuous 16 stand of sawgrass prairie, the only subtropical preserve in 17 North America, and the largest mangrove ecosystem in the western 18 hemisphere, and 19 WHEREAS, since the Everglades becam e a national park, it 20 has been named a World Heritage Site, an International Biosphere 21 Reserve, and a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance, which 22 ensures its preservation for present and future generations, 23 NOW, THEREFORE, 24 25 HR 8031 2022 hr8031-00 Page 2 of 2 F L O R I D A H O U S E O F R E P R E S E N T A T I V E S Be It Resolved by the Ho use of Representatives of the State of 26 Florida: 27 28 That the 75th anniversary of the Everglades National Park 29 is celebrated and that the Everglades National Park is 30 recognized for being an international treasure. 31
