Section 409.9063, Florida Statutes, is created 13 to read: 14 409.9063 Rapid whole genome sequencing services for 15 Medicaid recipients. — 16 (1) As used in this section, the term "rapi d whole genome 17 sequencing" means an investigation of the entire human genome, 18 including coding and noncoding regions and mitochondrial 19 deoxyribonucleic acid, to identify disease -causing genetic 20 changes which yields preliminary results within 5 days and the 21 final results within 14 days. The term includes patient -only 22 whole genome sequencing and duo and trio whole genome sequencing 23 of the patient and biological parent or parents. 24 (2) Subject to any required approval of the Centers for 25 CS/CS/HB 1043 2023 CODING: Words stricken are deletions; words underlined are additions. hb1043-02-c2 Page 2 of 2 F L O R I D A H O U S E O F R E P R E S E N T A T I V E S Medicare and Medicaid Services, the agency shall include 26 coverage of rapid whole genome sequencing as a separately 27 payable service for a Medicaid recipient who: 28 (a) Is 20 years of age or younger; 29 (b) Has a complex or acute illness of unknown etiology 30 which is confirmed not to have been caused by an environmental 31 exposure, a toxic ingestion, an infection with normal response 32 to therapy, or trauma; and 33 (c) Is receiving inpatient hospital services in an 34 intensive care unit or a high -acuity pediatric care unit. 35 (3) The agency shall adopt rules to implement this 36 section. 37 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2023. 38
