amending s. 843.01, F.S.; prohibiting the offering or 3 
doing violence to a police horse or police canine in 4 
certain circumstances; providing criminal penalties; 5 
amending s. 843.19, F.S.; increasing the 6 
classification of specified criminal offenses 7 
committed against police canines, fire canines, SAR 8 
canines, or police horses; amending s. 921.0022, F.S.; 9 
ranking offenses on the offense severity ranking chart 10 
of the Criminal Punishment Code; conforming provisions 11 
to changes made by the act; providing an effective 12

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 15 
 16 
 Section 1.  Section 843.01, Flo rida Statutes, is amended to 17 
read: 18 
 843.01  Resisting officer with violence to his or her 19 
person.— 20 
 (1) Whoever knowingly and willfully resists, obstructs, or 21 
opposes any officer as defined in s. 943.10(1), (2), (3), (6), 22 
(7), (8), or (9); member of the F lorida Commission on Offender 23 
Review or any administrative aide or supervisor employed by the 24 
commission; parole and probation supervisor; county probation 25

the person of such officer or legally authorized person, commits 30 
is guilty of a felony of the third degree, punish able as 31 
provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084. 32 
 (2)  Whoever knowingly and willfully resists, obstructs, or 33 
opposes a police canine or police horse as defined in s. 34 
843.19(1)(a), working at the direction of or in tandem with any 35 
officer or legally authorized person listed in subsection (1), 36 
by offering or doing violence to the police canine or police 37 
horse, commits a felony of the third degree, punishable as 38 
provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084. 39 
 Section 2.  Subsections (3) and (4 ) of section 843.19, 40 
Florida Statutes, are amended to read: 41 
 843.19  Offenses against police canines, fire canines, SAR 42 
canines, or police horses. — 43 
 (3)  Any person who actually and intentionally maliciously 44 
touches, strikes, or causes bodily harm to a pol ice canine, fire 45 
canine, SAR canine, or police horse commits a felony misdemeanor 46 
of the third first degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 , 47 
or s. 775.083, or s. 775.084. 48 
 (4)  Any person who intentionally or knowingly maliciously 49 
harasses, teases, interferes with, or attempts to interfere with 50
