A bill to be entitled 1 
An act relating to registrations and transfers of 2 
heating, ventilation, and air -conditioning system 3 
manufacturer warranties; creating ss. 489.5187 and 4 
559.956, F.S.; requiring manufacturer warranties for 5 
heating, ventilation, and air -conditioning (HVAC) 6 
systems to be registered to the home or building and 7 
not to the owner of the home or building; providing 8 
for the automatic triggering of such warranties at a 9 
specified time; requiring certain documentation; 10 
providing an effective date. 11

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 13 
 14 
 Section 1.  Section 489.5187, Florida Statutes, is created 15 
to read: 16 
 489.5187  Heating, ventilation, and a ir-conditioning system 17 
manufacturer warranty registrations and transfers; required 18 
contractor documentation. —A manufacturer warranty for a heating, 19 
ventilation, and air -conditioning (HVAC) system must be 20 
registered to the home or building and not to the ow ner of the 21 
home or building. When a new owner takes over the home or 22 
building, the current timeframe for the exiting manufacturer 23 
warranty for the HVAC system stays in place. A manufacturer 24 
warranty for an HVAC system is automatically triggered once a 25

new HVAC system is installed. A contractor who installs a new 26 
HVAC system must document the installation through an invoice or 27 
a receipt to the customer. 28 
 Section 2.  Section 559.956, Florida Statutes, is created 29 
to read: 30 
 559.956  Heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning system 31 
manufacturer warranty registrations and transfer; required 32 
contractor documentation. —A manufacturer warranty for a heating, 33 
ventilation, and air -conditioning (HVAC) system must be 34
