Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 7

Section 1. Section 124.012, Florida Statutes, is created 9
to read: 10
124.012 Term limits of county commissioners. — 11
(1) Notwithstanding the terms of any county charter to the 12
contrary, a person may not appear on the ballot for reelection 13
to the office of county commissioner if, by the end of his or 14
her current term of office, the person will have served, or but 15
for resignation would have served, in that office f or 8 16
consecutive years. In any county in which term limits are not 17
imposed by a county charter as of July 1, 2024, service of a 18
term of office which commenced before November 8, 2022, may not 19
be counted toward the limitation imposed by this subsection. 20
(2) This section does not supersede any term limit imposed 21
by a county charter which is more restrictive than the term 22
limit imposed in this section. 23
Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2024. 24
