An act relating to assessment of renewable energy 2 
source devices; amending s. 193.624, F.S.; revising 3 
the definition of the term "renewable energy source 4 
device"; providing an effective date. 5

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 7 
 8 
 Section 1.  Subsection (1) of section 193.624, Florida 9 
Statutes, is amended to read: 10 
 193.624  Assessment of renewable energy source devices. — 11 
 (1)  As used in this section, the term "renewable energy 12 
source device" means any of the following equipment that 13 
collects, transmits, stores, or uses solar energy, wind energy, 14 
or energy derived from geothermal deposits or biogas: 15 
 (a)  Solar energy collectors, photovoltaic modules, and 16 
inverters. 17 
 (b)  Storage tanks and other storage systems, excluding 18 
swimming pools used as storage tanks. 19 
 (c)  Rockbeds. 20 
 (d)  Thermostats and other control devices. 21 
 (e)  Heat exchange devices. 22 
 (f)  Pumps and fans. 23 
 (g)  Roof ponds. 24 
 (h)  Freestanding thermal containers. 25

 (i)  Pipes, ducts, wiring, structural supports, refrigerant 26 
handling systems, and other components used as integral parts of 27 
such systems; however, such equipment does not include 28 
conventional backup systems of any type or any equipment or 29 
structure that would be required in the absence of the renewable 30 
energy source device. 31 
 (j)  Windmills and wind turbines. 32 
 (k)  Wind-driven generators. 33 
 (l)  Power conditioning and storage devices that store or 34 
use solar energy, wind energy, or energy derived from geothermal 35 
deposits to generate electricity or mechanical forms of energy. 36 
 (m)  Pipes and other equipment used to transmit hot 37 
geothermal water to a dwelling or structure from a geothermal 38 
deposit. 39 
 (n)  Pipes, equipment, construction materials, structural 40 
support, interconnection, and any other machinery used in the 41 
production, storage, compression, transportation, processing, 42 
and conversion of biogas from landfill waste, livestock farm 43 
waste, food waste, or tre ated wastewater into renewable natural 44 
gas suitable for pipeline injection. 45 
 46 
The term does not include equipment that is on the distribution 47 
or transmission side of the point at which a renewable energy 48 
source device is interconnected to an electric utilit y's 49 
distribution grid or transmission lines. 50

 Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a law. 51
