education on specified topics; providing an effective 8

Be It Enacted by the Legislatu re of the State of Florida: 11

Section 1. Section 683.3343, Florida Statutes, is created 13
to read: 14
683.3343 Fentanyl Awareness and Education Day. — 15
(1) The Legislature designates August 21 of each year as 16
"Fentanyl Awareness and Education Day" to incre ase awareness of 17
the dangers of fentanyl and potential overdoses. 18
(2) The Department of Health, the Department of Children 19
and Families, local governments, public schools, and other 20
agencies are encouraged to sponsor events to promote awareness 21
of the dangers of fentanyl and potential overdoses, including, 22
but, not limited to, education on the prevention of fentanyl 23
abuse and addiction; the availability of local school and 24
community resources for drug prevention and any processes 25

involved in accessing tho se resources; and health issues, 26
including information about substance use and abuse, 27
specifically youth substance use and abuse. 28
Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2025. 29
