An act relating to a Type 1 diabetes early detection 2
program; creating s. 381.992, F.S.; requiring the 3
Department of Health, in collaboration with school 4
districts throughout the state, to develop 5
informational materials for the early detection of 6
Type 1 diabetes for parents and guardians of students; 7
providing requirements for such informational 8
materials; providing an effective date. 9

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 11

Section 1. Section 381.992, Florida Statutes, is created 13
to read: 14
381.992 Type 1 diabetes early detection program. — 15
(1) The Department of Health, in collaboration with school 16
districts throughout the state , shall develop informational 17
materials for the early detection of Type 1 diabetes for parents 18
and guardians of students. The informational materials shall be 19
made available to each school district, school board, and 20
charter school through the department's website. 21
(2) Within 90 days after July 1, 2025, the department 22
shall develop the materials related to the early detection of 23
Type 1 diabetes and post the information on its website. The 24
department shall develop a standardized methodology for each 25

school district, school board, and charter school for the 26
notification of the parents or guardians of first -grade students 27
within the first 30 days of each school year of the availability 28
of the Type 1 diabetes early detection materials. 29
(3) Information provid ed to parents and guardians shall 30
include, but not be limited to, all of the following: 31
(a) A description of Type 1 diabetes. 32
(b) A description of the risk factors and warning signs 33
associated with Type 1 diabetes. 34
(c) A description of the process fo r screening students 35
for early detection of Type 1 diabetes using a blood 36
autoantibody test. 37
(d) A recommendation for further evaluation for students 38
displaying warning signs associated with Type 1 diabetes or 39
positive early detection screening results. 40
Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2025. 41
