A bill to be entitled 1
An act relating to the carrying of handguns or weapons 2
by law enforcement officers attending athletic events; 3
amending s. 790.06, F.S.; providing an exception to a 4
prohibition on the carrying of handguns or concealed 5
weapons or firearms at athletic events when done by 6
sworn law enforcement officers attending such events 7
as private citizens; providing an effective date. 8

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 10
11
Section 1. Paragraph (a) of subsection (12) of section 12
790.06, Florida Statutes, is amended to read: 13
790.06 License to carry concealed weapon or concealed 14
firearm.— 15
(12)(a) A license issued under this section does not 16
authorize any person to openly carry a handgun or carry a 17
concealed weapon or concealed firearm into: 18
1. Any place of nuisance as defined in s. 823.05; 19
2. Any police, sheriff, or highway patrol station; 20
3. Any detention facility, prison, or jail; 21
4. Any courthouse; 22
5. Any courtroom, except that nothing in this section 23
precludes a judge from carrying a concealed weapon or concealed 24
firearm or determining who will carry a concealed weapon or 25

concealed firearm in his or her courtroom; 26
6. Any polling place; 27
7. Any meeting of the governing body of a county, public 28
school district, municipality, or special district; 29
8. Any meeting of the Legislature or a committee thereof; 30
9. Any school, college, or professional athletic event not 31
related to firearms; however, this subparagraph does not apply 32
to an active sworn law enforcement officer, as defined in s. 33
943.10(1), carrying a concealed weapon or concealed firearm when 34
attending such an event as a private citizen ; 35
10. Any elementary or secondary school facility or 36
administration building; 37
11. Any career center; 38
12. Any portion of an establishment licensed to dispense 39
alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises, which 40
portion of the establishment is primarily devoted to such 41
purpose; 42
13. Any college or university facility unless the licensee 43
is a registered student, employee, or faculty member of such 44
college or university and the weapon is a stun gun or nonlethal 45
electric weapon or device designed solely for defensive purposes 46
and the weapon does not fire a dart or projectile; 47
14. The inside of the passenger terminal and sterile area 48
of any airport, provided that no person shall be prohibited from 49
carrying any legal firearm into the terminal, which firearm is 50

encased for shipment for purpos es of checking such firearm as 51
baggage to be lawfully transported on any aircraft; or 52
15. Any place where the carrying of firearms is prohibited 53
by federal law. 54
Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2025. 55
