24 LC 112 2017 House Resolution 1233 By: Representatives Franklin of the 160 th , Corbett of the 174 th , Dickey of the 145 th , Stephens of the 164 th , and Parrish of the 158 th A RESOLUTION Commending Georgian farmers who produce sugarcane syrup; and for other purposes. 1 WHEREAS, making sugarcane syrup has been a part of family farm tradition for2 generations, particularly in Georgia; and3 WHEREAS, the increase in production costs, competition from artificial syrups, and the4 decreasing number of farmers who still make sugarcane syrup, however, has led some to5 refer to the making of sugarcane syrup as a dying art; and6 WHEREAS, authentic sugarcane syrup is now harder to find than ever on store shelves, and7 cheaper syrups are frequently made with corn syrup and artificial additives; and8 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper to appropriately honor those who continue9 to preserve the long-standing tradition of making authentic sugarcane syrup.10 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that11 the members of this body commend Georgian farmers who dedicate their time and energy12 toward the art of making sugarcane syrup as well as extend best wishes for future health,13 happiness, and success.14 H.
