A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending the Nigerian Women Association of Georgia; and for other

purposes.2
WHEREAS, the Nigerian Women Association of Georgia has a long and consistent record3
of service to the community and this state and has been recognized as one of the most4
dynamic and committed civic organizations in Georgia; and5
WHEREAS, this outstanding organization has had a tremendous impact on its community6
through its spirit of service and desire to improve the quality of life in both the United States7
and Nigeria; and8
WHEREAS, in the United States, the group awards scholarships to qualified high school9
seniors in the Atlanta area, conducts outreach to schools in the Atlanta area to educate10
students about the cultural heritage of Nigeria and Africa, and organize annual summer11
enrichment and educational programs for youth and children in the Atlanta area; and12
WHEREAS, the association also collaborates with numerous charitable organizations13
including the Southside Medical Center, the Sickle Cell Foundation, International Women's14

House, Hosea Feed the Hungry, MedShare International, the Atlanta Community Food Bank,

and the Susan G. Komen; and16
WHEREAS, in Nigeria, the group awards scholarships, provides holiday gifts through the17
Angel Tree Project and supports the nutrition program of orphanages, contributes medical18
supplies, works to raise HIV/AIDS awareness, and fights sex trafficking among other worthy19
endeavors; and20
WHEREAS, it received the "African Community Humanitarian Award" from African21
Women Leadership Organization (AWLO) in 2016 and the "Community Impact Award"22
from Overcomers Christian Fellowship in 2014; and23
WHEREAS, this remarkable civic organization has established a glowing reputation of24
renown throughout Georgia for its dedication and high ideals and it is abundantly fitting and25
proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this extraordinary organization be26
appropriately recognized.27
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that28
the members of this body recognize and commend the Nigerian Women Association of29
Georgia and thank it for its efforts of behalf of the community and state.30
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized31
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the32
Nigerian Women Association of Georgia.33
