24 LC 128 0111 House Resolution 977 By: Representatives Oliver of the 82 nd , Crowe of the 118 th , Stephens of the 164 th , Parrish of the 158 th , Buckner of the 137 th , and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation; and for other 1 purposes.2 WHEREAS, seventy-five years ago, the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation captured a3 remarkable act of collective hope that all children, adults, and senior citizens have clear4 vision to achieve their best educational, social, and work potential; and5 WHEREAS, the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation was the dream of a blind man,6 Atlanta Lions Club member Tom Bingham. In 1949, the Atlanta Lions Club, led by7 Bingham, along with the Moultrie and Albany Lions Clubs, each contributed $1,000.00, and8 the Lighthouse was born; and9 WHEREAS, the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation, in partnership with Lions Clubs10 throughout the State of Georgia, believes that all Georgians should have equal access to11 vision care; and12 WHEREAS, the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation consistently ranks among the top13 Georgia nonprofit organizations that impact the lives of Georgians, is one of the most14 comprehensive state-wide nonprofit vision services provider organizations in Georgia, and15 H. R. 977 - 1 - 24 LC 128 0111 is the trusted leader in providing improved sight to Georgians who are uninsured and 16 underinsured; and17 WHEREAS, the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation delivers vision services through a18 full-service optical clinic, glasses recycling, mobile clinics, surgery coordination, a19 state-wide school vision screening initiative, and a state-wide advanced technology20 tele-optometry program to address the unmet vision needs of uninsured and underinsured21 Georgians; and22 WHEREAS, the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation is transforming vision care in23 Georgia by providing vision services to 52 rural Georgia counties that lack access to vision24 professionals; and25 WHEREAS, the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation has established itself as the leader26 in Georgia, and it is only fitting and proper that it be recognized for its efforts and27 contributions to ensure that all Georgians, young and old, have clear vision allowing them28 to have better quality and productive lives.29 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that30 the members of this body recognize and commend the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation31 for its diligent service and encourage all businesses and community members to both support32 and take advantage of the resources available from the Georgia Lions Lighthouse33 Foundation.34 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized35 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the36 Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation.37 H.
