A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life and memory of Charles Elliot Thornton; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens2
with the passing of Charles Elliot Thornton; and3
WHEREAS, Charles Elliot Thornton was born on June 24, 1975, a beloved son of Otha4
Edward Thornton Sr. and Estelle Jones Thornton; and5
WHEREAS, he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United6
States Army, valiantly and courageously protecting his fellow Americans as a combat medic7
and special operations noncommissioned officer; and 8
WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith, Charles Elliot Thornton was an active member9
of the Renaissance Church of Christ; and10
WHEREAS, he further served his community as a mentor of young men, and through his11
organization Elberton's Promise, he gave youth in Elberton's middle and high schools the12
opportunity to learn wisdom and life skills from professionals; and13 23 LC 112 1541

WHEREAS, he was united in love and marriage to his wife, Elisa, and was blessed with five
14
remarkable children, Amaya, Gracie, India, Charles Jr., and Elias; and15
WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern16
for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his17
family and friends were admired by others; and18
WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation19
for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example he made of his life, he20
made this world a better place in which to live; and21
WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Charles Elliot Thornton will long be22
remembered for his love of family, friendship, and community and will be missed by all who23
had the great fortune of knowing him.24
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body25
join in honoring the life and memory of Charles Elliot Thornton and express their deepest26
and most sincere regret at his passing.27
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed28
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the family of29
Charles Elliot Thornton.30
