R. 413 - 1 - Senate Resolution 413 By: Senators Davenport of the 44th, Seay of the 34th, Butler of the 55th, Tate of the 38th, James of the 35th and others A RESOLUTION Commending the alumni of the William Alfred Fountain High School upon the sixth annual 1 Fountain High School Alumni Breakfast; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, the alumni of the William Alfred Fountain High School will be celebrating the3 sixth annual W.A. Fountain High School Alumni Reunion Breakfast on April 1, 2023; and4 WHEREAS, William Alfred Fountain High School was built in 1952 in Forest Park,5 Georgia. The school was a product of the consolidation movement in Clayton County and6 had a unique beginning in that it housed grades one through 12 under the same roof with an7 enrollment of approximately 1,200 students; and8 WHEREAS, Mr. Moddie Decker Roberts Sr. was appointed as the first principal in June9 1952 and served with distinction, leading the school in having an outstanding chorus,10 marching band, football and basketball teams, and other extra-curricular activities that11 displayed good sportsmanship and supported the mighty maroon and white Rams; and12 WHEREAS, the school was named in honor of African Methodist Episcopal Church Bishop13 William Alfred Fountain, a theologian, philanthropist, educator, and biblical scholar; and14 23 LC 126 0337 S. R. 413 - 2 - WHEREAS, graduates of W.A. Fountain High School have made significant achievements 15 and contributions to society, especially the State of Georgia. Many have served in several16 branches of the United States Armed Forces and as doctors, lawyers, teachers, ministers, and17 businessmen and women, as well as in other areas of the workforce.18 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body19 commend the alumni of William Alfred Fountain High School upon the grand occasion of20 the sixth annual Fountain High School Alumni Breakfast on April 1, 2023.21 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed22 to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the23 press.24
