A RESOLUTION
Commending Travis Strickland, the 2024 West Georgia Soil and Water Conservationist of

the Year; and for other purposes.2
WHEREAS, Travis Strickland is a fourth-generation farmer whose land is situated between3
Winston and Whitesburg, where his family has resided since before the Civil War; and4
WHEREAS, originally a cotton farm through World War I under Moes Strickland, the farm5
transitioned to cattle upon Moes' return from the war, and it has since been operated by6
successive generations of the family, including Ervin Strickland, a World War II veteran, and7
Donald Strickland, a Vietnam War veteran; and8
WHEREAS, Travis Strickland began his farming journey as a child by assisting with the9
family food plot and feeding cattle, and after the passing of his father in 2015, he assumed10
full responsibility of the farm, where he now breeds Angus cattle; and11
WHEREAS, he has since continued its operations with the support of his wife, Mary, and12
their two young children, Kyler and Tate; and13

WHEREAS, in addition to his work as a farmer, Travis Strickland serves his community as
14
a full-time firefighter and operates a pine straw business; and15
WHEREAS, this distinguished gentleman has given inspiration to many through his high16
ideals, morals, and deep concern for his fellow citizens, and he possesses the vast wisdom17
which only comes through experience and the strength of character which is achieved18
through overcoming the many challenges of life; and19
WHEREAS, he is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for20
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and21
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this22
remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.23
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that24
the members of this body commend Travis Strickland, the 2024 West Georgia Soil and25
Water Conservationist of the Year, and extend sincere best wishes to the Strickland family26
for future health, happiness, and success.27
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized28
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to29
Travis Strickland.30
