25 LC 112 3298 House Resolution 569 By: Representatives Okoye of the 102 nd , Clark of the 108 th , Adeyina of the 110 th , Park of the 107 th , and McClain of the 109 th A RESOLUTION Honoring the life and memory of Dorothy Sanders Shaw; and for other purposes. 1 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens2 with the passing of Dorothy Sanders Shaw on February 23, 2025; and3 WHEREAS, Dorothy Sanders Shaw was born on August 13, 1934, the beloved daughter of4 Beatrice Bailey and Charles Penn Sanders; and5 WHEREAS, after earning her bachelor's degree in 1956 from the Mississippi State College6 for Women, she began her distinguished career in civil service as a logistics analyst with the7 United States Air Force at Warner Robins Air Force Base in Georgia; and8 WHEREAS, in 1984, she advanced her career with a promotion that led her to9 Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, and in 1986, she transitioned to a role as10 a budget analyst at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., where she continued her exemplary11 civil service until her retirement at age 56; and12 H. R. 569 - 1 - 25 LC 112 3298 WHEREAS, after retiring from the Pentagon, Dorothy Sanders Shaw embarked on a second 13 career in real estate, earning her license and working as a Century 21 realtor for eight years14 before returning to Georgia in 1998 to be closer to her family; and15 WHEREAS, a woman of deep and abiding faith, she was a devoted member of St. Matthew's16 Episcopal Church, where she participated in the Café Theology discussion group and took17 sacraments to homebound members; and18 WHEREAS, she was united in love and marriage to her husband, Wayne, and was blessed19 with three remarkable children, Allison, Karen, and Keith; four wonderful grandchildren,20 Lauren, William, Len, and Kate; and three cherished great-grandchildren, Agnes, Edie, and21 Rae; and22 WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous woman, Dorothy Sanders Shaw will long be23 remembered for her love of family, friendship, and community and will be missed by all who24 had the great fortune of knowing her.25 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that26 the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Dorothy Sanders Shaw and27 express their deepest and most sincere regret at her passing.28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized29 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the30 family of Dorothy Sanders Shaw.31 H.
