A RESOLUTION
Recognizing April 26, 2025, as Mr. Johnny C. Nimes Day; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Johnny C. Nimes, affectionately known as "The Retirement Coach," was2
a native of Augusta, Georgia, who received his education at Immaculate Conception Catholic3
School, A. R. Johnson Junior High School, Lucy Craft Laney High School, Paine College,4
and Bowling Green State University; and5
WHEREAS, Mr. Nimes was a star varsity basketball athlete at Lucy Craft Laney High6
School and became the first male drum major for the Lucy Craft Laney High School "Pride7
of Augusta" Marching Band; and8
WHEREAS, he graduated with honors in the top ten percent of his 1971 graduating class,9
ranking sixth out of 338 students, and was a life member, 2019 Hall of Fame inductee, first10
president, and founding member of the Lucy Craft Laney High School Alumni Association11
Inc.; and12
WHEREAS, Mr. Nimes received the first awarded basketball scholarship to attend Paine13
College, where he served as team captain and was elected vice president of the Paine College14

Student Government Association, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English and graduating cum

laude in 1975; and16
WHEREAS, he furthered his education at Bowling Green State University, earning a Master17
of Arts in college student personnel in 1983 while maintaining a 3.55 grade point average;18
and19
WHEREAS, Mr. Nimes began his career in education in 1975 as an English, math, and20
general science teacher and assistant football coach, as well as head basketball and baseball21
coach at A. R. Johnson Junior High School; and22
WHEREAS, in 1979, he joined Paine College as an admissions counselor before being23
appointed director of financial aid in 1983; and24
WHEREAS, he later served as a compliance officer at Emory University in 1986 and as25
director of financial aid at DeVry University in Decatur and Morehouse College in Atlanta26
in 1988 and 1989; and27
WHEREAS, in January 1997, Mr. Nimes was appointed associate dean of student affairs at28
Morehouse College, and in October 2004, he transitioned into a full-time education29
consultant; and30
WHEREAS, Mr. Nimes' other personal and professional accomplishments include working31
as an employment specialist at the Georgia Department of Labor, associate director of32
financial aid and executive director of enrollment management at Fort Valley State33
University, and director of financial aid at the Interdenominational Theological Center in34
Atlanta, Georgia, until his retirement.35

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that

the members of this body recognize April 26, 2025, as Mr. Johnny C. Nimes Day in honor37
of his outstanding achievements, dedication to education, and tireless commitment to the38
betterment of his community and profession.39
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized40
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the41
family of Mr. Johnny C. Nimes.42
