25 LC 129 0368 House Resolution 697 By: Representatives Alexander of the 66 th , Cannon of the 58 th , and Berry of the 56 th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Haywood Tucker; and for other purposes. 1 WHEREAS, Haywood Tucker, an Atlanta native, has long been recognized for his musical2 contributions and leadership in the State of Georgia; and3 WHEREAS, starting with humble beginnings, recording his band in his parents' living room,4 he quickly expanded to opening Haywood's Recording Studio in 1978, in Atlanta, Georgia;5 and6 WHEREAS, the first client at his studio was the renowned Atlanta funk band "The SOS7 Band," later Haywood would record other legendary singers and bands such as Curtis8 Mayfeild, Ollie Wilson of "The Temptations," Rev. Charles Davis, and Major Lance; and9 WHEREAS, he also worked with and recorded political greats such as the late civil rights10 icon and Untied States Congressman John Lewis, Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson, civil11 rights activist Jessie Jackson, and Georgia State Representative "Able" Mable Thomas; and12 WHEREAS, Haywood is known as the "Splice King" for his extraordinary ability to cut tape13 and put songs together; and14 H. R. 697 - 1 - 25 LC 129 0368 WHEREAS, to this day, Haywood continues to sing, record, and produce music along with 15 his wife, children, and grandchildren; and 16 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the musical, cultural, and creative talents17 of this outstanding Georgian are appropriately honored.18 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that19 the members of this body recognize and commend Haywood Tucker and extend sincere best20 wishes for his continued health, happiness, and success. 21 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized22 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to23 Haywood Tucker.24 H.
