25 LC 112 3483 House Resolution 704 By: Representatives Burchett of the 176 th , LaHood of the 175 th , Corbett of the 174 th , and Sharper of the 177 th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Lowndes County on the occasion of its Bicentennial; and for 1 other purposes.2 WHEREAS, Lowndes County was created by an act of the Georgia General Assembly on3 December 23, 1825, marking 200 years of rich history and progress; and4 WHEREAS, the county was named in honor of William J. Lowndes, a distinguished5 statesman from South Carolina; and6 WHEREAS, Valdosta was established in 1860 and has since played a significant role in the7 county's economic and infrastructural growth; and8 WHEREAS, today, Lowndes County is home to a thriving population of approximately9 120,700 residents and serves as a regional hub for economic growth and vitality; and10 WHEREAS, the county boasts key industries such as advanced manufacturing, agribusiness,11 food processing, warehousing, and distribution, making it an essential contributor to12 Georgia's economy; and13 H. R. 704 - 1 - 25 LC 112 3483 WHEREAS, Lowndes County is home to Moody Air Force Base, which plays a crucial role 14 in national defense and the local economy; and15 WHEREAS, the municipalities of Lowndes County, including Valdosta, Hahira, Dasher,16 Lake Park, and Remerton, contribute to the county's diverse and vibrant community; and17 WHEREAS, as Lowndes County commemorates its Bicentennial, it is fitting to recognize18 and celebrate the county's rich heritage, economic progress, and the enduring spirit of its19 residents.20 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that21 the members of this body recognize and commend Lowndes County on the occasion of its22 Bicentennial and extend best wishes for continued prosperity and success.23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized24 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to25 Lowndes County officials and community leaders.26 H.
