A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
To amend Article 7 of Chapter 4 of Title 49 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated,

relating to medical assistance generally, so as to provide for Medicaid coverage of2
postpartum maternal mental health care services; to provide for related matters; to repeal3
conflicting laws; and for other purposes.4
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:5
SECTION 1.6
Article 7 of Chapter 4 of Title 49 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to7
medical assistance generally, is amended by revising subsection (a) of Code Section8
49-4-159, relating to Medicaid coverage for lactation and postpartum care, as follows:9
"(a)  The department shall provide Medicaid coverage for:10
(1)  Lactation care and services, as defined in paragraph (5) of Code Section 43-22A-3,11
to pregnant and lactating women and to children who are breastfeeding or receiving their12
mother's milk; and
13
(2) Postpartum care for mothers for a period of one year following the date the14
pregnancy ends; and15

(3) Postpartum mental health care services for mothers, including screenings for16
depression and anxiety, and maternal mental health support for a period of one year17
following the date the pregnancy ends."18
SECTION 2.19
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.20
