25 LC 61 0062 Senate Bill 63 By: Senators Dixon of the 45th, Gooch of the 51st, Robertson of the 29th, Harbin of the 16th, Hickman of the 4th and others A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT To amend Part 15 of Article 6 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the Official Code of Georgia 1 Annotated, relating to miscellaneous provisions under the "Quality Basic Education Act,"2 so as to require that local school systems offer certain exams to home study students; to3 provide for notice requirements; to prohibit additional qualifications; to provide a definition;4 to provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.5 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:6 SECTION 1.7 Part 15 of Article 6 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated,8 relating to miscellaneous provisions under the "Quality Basic Education Act," is amended9 by adding a new Code section to read as follows:10 "20-2-324.8. 11 (a) As used in this Code section, the term 'home study student' means a student in grades12 six through 12 who is in a home study program that meets the requirements of13 subsection (c) of Code Section 20-2-690.14 (b) Each local school system that offers the PSAT/NMSQT, SAT, PreACT, or ACT or an15 advanced placement exam to students enrolled in such local school system shall:16 S. B. 63 - 1 - 25 LC 61 0062 (1) Make each such test or exam available to any home study student who resides in the17 local school system; and18 (2) Post on its public website notice of the date that each such test or exam will be19 administered. Such notice shall include registration dates and procedures and shall state20 that such test or exam is available for home study students who reside in the local school21 system.22 (c) No local school system that offers the PSAT/NMSQT, SAT, PreACT, or ACT or an23 advanced placement exam to students enrolled in such local school system shall require24 home study students to pay a fee or meet any qualifications to register for or take any such25 test or exam that are not required of students enrolled in such local school system."26 SECTION 2.27 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.28 S.
