A RESOLUTION
Recognizing February 6, 2025, as Monroe County Day at the state capitol; and for other

purposes.2
WHEREAS, Monroe County, Georgia, was founded in 1821 and named after James Monroe,3
a founding father and the fifth President of the United States; and4
WHEREAS, with the City of Forsyth serving as its seat, Monroe County covers 395 square5
miles and has a population of over 27,000 people; and6
WHEREAS, Monroe County is home to outdoor tourist attractions such as the7
Chattahoochee National Forest, High Falls State Park, and Lake Juliette; and8
WHEREAS, the Monroe County Commission is dutifully and effectively performing its role9
as the elected legislative body of Monroe County by faithfully identifying and executing10
short-term and long-term goals, demonstrating exceptional leadership, and working hard to11
ensure that Monroe County continues to be a staple community in middle Georgia; and12
WHEREAS, the Monroe County Chamber of Commerce is working to develop and apply13
new ideas, techniques, and technologies to generate and improve productivity levels, fiscal14

sustainability, business development, job growth, and quality of life within Monroe County;

and16
WHEREAS, established in 2001, Leadership Monroe hosts annual classes to cultivate strong17
community leaders by connecting a diverse group of individuals, equipping them with the18
skills and knowledge to address local challenges, and fostering relationships that drive19
progress in Monroe County; and20
WHEREAS, the program begins with a retreat introducing participants to their team,21
followed by monthly meetings across Monroe County that explore critical community issues22
and facilitate engagement with government leaders and chamber events; and23
WHEREAS, each class undertakes a community project, with the 2025 class raising funds24
for Monroe County Special Olympics and volunteering at the event by providing lunch,25
t-shirts, and tents representing various schools; and26
WHEREAS, the citizens of Monroe County are justly proud of their community, its past, and27
its numerous contributions to the state, and it is only fitting and proper to recognize this28
exemplary county.29
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body30
recognize February 6, 2025, as Monroe County Day at the state capitol and express sincere31
best wishes for continued success.32
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed33
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the Monroe34
County Chamber of Commerce.35
