25 LC 112 2664 Senate Resolution 17 By: Senators Ginn of the 47th, Cowsert of the 46th, Brass of the 6th, Anavitarte of the 31st, Albers of the 56th and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Family and Consumer Sciences; and for other purposes. 1 WHEREAS, Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) is a comprehensive body of research,2 knowledge, and skills that helps people make informed decisions about their well-being,3 relationships, and quality of life; and4 WHEREAS, with a unique focus on families, work, and their inter-relationships, FCS5 professionals have long worked to empower individuals and families in Georgia to better6 manage the challenges of living and working in a diverse global society; and7 WHEREAS, national, state, and local policy makers; education administrators; and the public8 need an understanding of FCS and its direct relevance to the serious societal concerns of9 today, such as obesity; food safety; financial literacy; the complexities of family life; and the10 role of parents, caregivers, and other adults in preparing children for school readiness; and11 WHEREAS, FCS professionals continue to provide relevant and useful resources to help12 students prepare for careers in teaching, extension, human services, and a variety of other13 fields; and14 S. R. 17 - 1 - 25 LC 112 2664 WHEREAS, federal, state, and local decision makers strongly influence the allocation of 15 funds for FCS and the administrative and curricular structure at all levels; and16 WHEREAS, the Family, Career, Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) and other17 entities within Family and Consumer Sciences support the development and implementation18 of initiatives designed to promote uniform name recognition and foster a greater19 understanding of the important role that the organization plays in preparing families to20 successfully manage the many and varied challenges of everyday life.21 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body22 recognize and commend the affiliates, communities, and entities within Family and23 Consumer Sciences and support the development and implementation of national, state, and24 local intervention strategies to sustain Family and Consumer Sciences in the current25 economic and education environment.26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed27 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Family and28 Consumer Sciences.29 S.
