25 LC 112 3207 Senate Resolution 315 By: Senators Goodman of the 8th, Watson of the 11th, Sims of the 12th, Anderson of the 24th, Echols of the 49th and others A RESOLUTION Commending the Georgia peanut industry and recognizing March 2025 as Georgia Peanut 1 Month at the state capitol; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, peanuts and peanut products are recognized throughout our nation and the3 world as an appetizing and nutritious food, providing protein and other nutrients as part of4 a well-balanced diet; and5 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia leads the United States in peanut production, producing 506 percent of the total supply in the nation in 2024; and7 WHEREAS, our state further leads the nation in peanut exports, supplying nearly half of the8 United States' peanut exports and contributing more than $442 million toward our nation's9 balance of trade; and10 WHEREAS, peanut production is the largest single cash food row crop in Georgia with gross11 farm receipts totaling hundreds of millions of dollars; and12 WHEREAS, more than 250 Georgia companies engaged in warehousing, processing,13 manufacturing, and marketing totally depend on the peanut industry, and hundreds of other14 S. R. 315 - 1 - 25 LC 112 3207 Georgia companies that engage in financing, supplying, distributing, and transporting are 15 dependent to some extent on the peanut industry; and16 WHEREAS, the Georgia peanut industry has played a significant role in the economic17 growth and prosperity of our state, contributing an estimated $2 billion to the Georgia18 economy and supporting the livelihood of more than 150,000 Georgians.19 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body20 commend the Georgia peanut industry for its outstanding contributions to the economic21 health of the State of Georgia and recognize March 2025 as Georgia Peanut Month at the22 state capitol.23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed24 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the Georgia Peanut25 Commission.26 S.
