A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, commencing a month of fasting and

spiritual renewal, and extending best wishes to all in Georgia and around the world for a2
joyous and meaningful observance of Eid al-Fitr; and for other purposes.3
WHEREAS, Ramadan is the holy month when Muslims worldwide fast not only to renew4
themselves spiritually but also to recognize their responsibility and obligations to the society5
at large as well as to take care of the needy and underprivileged regardless of their religious6
or racial background; and7
WHEREAS, Muslims in Georgia and around the world observe Ramadan by fasting,8
emphasizing self-discipline, worshipping, helping humanity and all living beings, and9
reading the Holy Quran to improve patience, humility, and spirituality; and10
WHEREAS, Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, a significant holy month11
in the Islamic faith, and a month of sacrifice; contemplation of Ramadan begins on the12
evening of February 28, 2025, based on the visual sightings of the crescent moon; and13
WHEREAS, Ramadan will continue until March, when it ends with the sighting of the new14
moon and the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, signifying an end to the month of fasting; and15

WHEREAS, it is estimated that there are approximately 1.8 billion Muslims worldwide; and

WHEREAS, it is estimated that there are 3.5 million American Muslims and over 100,00017
Georgian Muslims; and18
WHEREAS, the Muslim population has been growing in Georgia, and today's Georgian19
Muslim population is a tapestry of ethnic, racial, linguistic, social, and economic groups; and20
WHEREAS, Georgian Muslims have contributed to every part of society to make21
advancements in medicine, science, engineering, economics, sports, education, military, and22
the law.23
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body,24
in support of Muslims throughout Georgia and the United States, recognize the Islamic holy25
month of Ramadan and extend best wishes to all in Georgia and across the world for a joyous26
and meaningful observance of Eid al-Fitr.27
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed28
to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the29
press.30
