SENATE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
urging the president of the united states to not defund law enforcement in the state.
WHEREAS, the current federal administration is making significant cuts to federal departments and programs; and WHEREAS, in fiscal year 2023, the State received approximately $3.8 billion in federal grants, with the State's law enforcement agencies such as county police departments and the Department of the Attorney General receiving federal grants for various programs such as the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas Program, Victims of Crime Acts Victim Assistance Formula Grant, Stop Violence Against Women Formula Grant Program, and many others; and WHEREAS, the current federal administration has been defunding various federal departments, programs, and grants; and WHEREAS, the State's law enforcement agencies will need to be properly funded to adequately respond to threats to public safety such as human trafficking, illegal fireworks, and increases in gun violence; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Thirty-third Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2025, the House of Representatives concurring, that the President of the United States is urged to not defund law enforcement in the State; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the President of the United States.
